Presunto, Fig, and Brie Sandwich - Not a Grilled Cheese (Made with Fig Jam)
heidi medina
This fig and brie sandwich layers sweet fig jam, creamy brie, thinly sliced Portuguese presunto, peppery arugula, aged balsamic and homemade hot honey on a baguette. No cooking required.
4ozthinly sliced presuntoor prosciutto, Serrano jamón, or cooked bacon
1cupfresh arugulaloosely packed
1tbspaged balsamic vinegar
1tspgood olive oil
1-2tsphot honeysee below
Freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions
Make Your Own Hot Honey (Without Cooking):
Stir in 1/2 to 1 tsp. habanero hot sauce (or scotch bonnect, malagueta, bird's eye chili hot sauce - even a bit of Asian Sweet Chili Sauce) until fully combined. Make to your hotness level. Not need to heat. Do NOT use Mexican style hot sauces. Wrong flavor.
Making Your Sandwiches:
Split the baguette lengthwise, or lay out your bread slices.
Evenly spread a thin layer of fig jam over the bread.
Then spread the meat over the bread. It's your choice whether you use presunto, prosciutto, or jamon. All are delicious. I recommend not crisping it because it makes it too salty.
Next layer on your sliced brie.
Then top with arugula.
Finally, drizzle balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and hot honey over the arugula. Finish with a generous crack of black pepper before popping on your top bread.
Serving:
Cut in half and serve up your sandwiches with plain chips, fries, or a simple pasta salad for a full dinner, or slice thin for a party platter.
If serving on a party platter, secure with toothpicks and slice into portions.
