Homemade Wheat Breadsticks with Garlic Butter

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup +2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 1 package active dry yeast do not use the rapid rise
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1.5 tsp. salt

Garlic Butter

  • 2 Tbsp. butter melted
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder

Instructions
 

  • Add yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar to a large bowl. Pour in warm water in bowl and mix well. Allow yeast to proof for about 10 minutes and become bubbly.
  • Stir in remaining sugar, salt, olive oil and 1 1/2 cups flour.
  • Start adding the remaining flour in increments to form a smooth, elastic dough. Once dough is holding together, turn out onto a well floured smooth surface and knead in the remaining flour, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Grease the bowl and return the dough, covering with a towel. Place in a warn place until dough doubles in size, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  • Punch the dough down and using a knife, cut into 12 pieces. Roll each piece into a 7 to 8 inch rope and place on a parchment covered bakinng sheet.
  • Cover and allow breadsticks to rise until doubled, about one hour.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Mix butter and garlic powder together and set aside until breadsticks are baked.
  • Bake breadsticks for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and brush with the garlic butter. Serve breadsticks warm. Store in an airtight container.
