Give the gift of yummy bread this holiday.
Day 7 of Simply Sophisticated Cooking’s 13-Day Holiday Challenge is Homemade Wheat BreadSticks with Garlic Butter. They taste similar to the Olive Garden BreadSticks.
Top with a little garlic butter and they taste similar to the Olive Garden BreadSticks. Only better since they are easy to make and are hot and fresh at your kitchen table.
And what better way to give the gift of love than by giving bread? Bread just helps make a home feel like a home. I’m also trailing off on my love for bread rant, so time to bring it back to the subject of giving the gift of bread for the holidays.
This DIY gift kit is easy to put together. Combine the flour, salt and sugar and add a package of active dry yeast and you have your bread kit. I also like to include a small bottle or packet of the garlic powder needed to make the garlic butter for brushing on top.
I use a whole wheat and all-purpose flour mix to keep the breadsticks light but still get the goodness of whole wheat. You could make them using all white flour and they will be almost identical in flavor as the Olive Garden ones.
Or if you don’t want breadsticks, then make rolls or a loaf.
You can also try topping them with other toppings than garlic butter, such as sesame or poppy seeds, or whatever makes you happy. This is an easy recipe to adapt to whatever your taste buds like.
Try including a baking sheet or loaf pan, a mixing bowl and wooden spoon for stirring or a brush for brushing on the melted butter. Gift giving is about fun, so have fun with it.
